Comment: The Veranus salvator komaini (sometimes known as a "Black Dragon"), is a particularly rare melanistic subspecies of Water Monitor. Reportedly, it was originally found in the wilds of Thailand and not captive-bred until around 2006. This breed commands exceptionally high prices, especially in the United States, with individuals commonly fetching several thousand dollars.
